What are hierarchical dimensions?

Modified on Thu, Feb 29 at 11:43 AM

Hierarchical relationships are defined between accounting dimensions in your accounting software/ERP. We  make it easy to reflect these dependencies on your AP invoices while coding line items to each of these dimensions.

  1. They support a simple hierarchy between parent and child dimensions that can accommodate up to 2 levels of hierarchy.

    • E.g., if you have 3 dimensions (Job/Project, Cost Code and Cost Type), then the supported hierarchy is Project (root) → Cost Code (branch) → Cost Type (leaf node)

  2. All dimensions that are hierarchically related must have the same scope (either location-specific or company-wide).

  3. This relationship is dictated by your accounting software/ERP and cannot be user-defined.
