User Guide: Getting Started with Passkeys on Ottimate

Modified on Mon, Feb 2 at 1:02 PM

At Ottimate, we are introducing Passkeys—a faster, more secure way to access your account.
Passkeys replace traditional passwords with the security you already use to unlock your phone or computer.

What is a Passkey?

A passkey is a secure alternative to a password. Instead of typing a long string of characters, you log in using biometrics(Face ID, Fingerprint) or your device’s screen lock (PIN/Pattern).

Why are they better:

  • Phishing Protection: Passkeys are unique to Ottimate and cannot be stolen by fake websites.

  • Seamless Access: Once created, passkeys sync across devices using your AppleGoogle, or Windows account.

  • No More Passwords: You’ll never have to remember, change, or reset a password again.

How to Add a Passkey

Setting up your passkey is a simple 3-step process:

  1. Navigate to Settings: Log in to your Ottimate account and go to Settings -> Account Security.

  2. Add Passkey: Under the Passkeys section, click the Add Passkey button. (You may be asked to verify your identity with your MFA code one last time)

  3. Unlock to Link: When prompted by your browser, unlock your device (using Touch ID, Face ID, or your PIN).

Note: For your security, only add passkeys to devices you personally own. Avoid adding passkeys to shared or public computers.

Use your Passkey to Login

Once enabled, the login experience becomes much smoother:

  1. Enter Email: Type your email on the login screen.

  2. Verify: Because Ottimate remembers your preference, we will automatically prompt you to use your passkey.

  3. Unlock: Use your device's biometric or screen lock, and you’re in!

For Users with 2-Step Verification (MFA) Enabled

If you have MFA (SMS or Authenticator App) enabled, logging in with a Passkey is even faster:

  • No Second Code Required: Because a passkey proves you have your physical device in hand, it counts as "Multi-Factor."

  • The Result: You bypass the manual 2FA challenge entirely and go straight to your dashboard.

Note: If you choose to log in with a password instead of a passkey, you will still be asked for your 2FA code as usual.

Managing Your Passkeys

You can manage or remove your passkeys at any time.

  1. Go to Settings > Account Security.

  2. Under the Passkeys section.

  3. To remove a device, click the trashcan icon next to its name.

FAQs

What devices are compatible?

  • Mobile: iOS 16+ or Android 9+.

  • Computer: Windows 10 (version 1903+), macOS Ventura, or ChromeOS 109+.

  • Browsers: Chrome (109+), Safari (16+), Edge (109+), or Firefox (122+).

What if I can’t find the Passkey option at login? If you aren't prompted for your passkey:

  • Check your Sync: Ensure you are logged into the same iCloud or Google account you used when you created the passkey.

  • Use a Backup: You can always click "Sign in with another method" to use your password and SMS/Email code.

What if I am unable to log in with a passkey? This usually happens when a passkey is removed from Ottimate but is still stored in your device's browser settings. Delete the old passkey from your Google/Apple Password Manager and create a new one in Ottimate.
